พระพุธรูปปางนี้สร้างขึ้นตามเรื่องราวที่ปรากฏในคัมภีร์หมวดโลกศาสตร์ กล่าวถึงมหิสสรเทพบุตรไม่พอใจที่เหล่าเทวดาไปนบนอบแด่พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า จึงท้าประลองฤทธิ์ด้วยการซ่อนหา
มหิสสรเทพบุตรไม่สามารถซ่อนตนจากพระญาณของพระพุทธองค์ได้ ครั้นพระพุทธเจ้าทรงเนรมิตองค์เป็นปรมาณูประทับยืนใกล้กับทิพยจักษุของมหิสสรเทพบุตร มหิสสรหาไม่พบจึงยอมจำนน
พระบรมศาสดาได้ตรัสเทศนาจนมหิสสรเทพบุตรบรรลุธรรม ภายหลังปรินิพพาน หหิสสรเทพบุตรได้เนรมิตพระพุทธปฏิมาเทินไว้เหนือเศียรอันเชิญไปประดิษฐานยังมหาวิหารบนเขามันทคีรี

This posture was created as appeared in the scripture of worldly science. It described about Mahisson deva was not peasant that all angels revered only Buddha.
So he challenged Buddha by hide and seek game. He could not hide himself from Buddha's insught at all.
The Buddha disguised as an atom standing near Mahisson's eye, but he did not see till he surrendered.
Buddha gave a sermon to Mahisson and he gained enlightment. After the death of Buddha, he created Buddha image above head to be enshrined in Vihara on Muntha Kiri mountain.
